Soon after entering, we were able to look up the hill for our first sighting of Pompei.

The Romans built streets for multiple purposes. The street was for horses, wagons, and drainage. The pedestrians used large stones in the street to cross the street.

During the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79 AD the population that remained in Pompei were incinerated or suffocated.
Many well preserved bodies were found under the ash from the eruption. This is a plaster cast of one of these bodies.
