Here we got our first look at Mount Saint Helens. Here the mountain was about 30 miles away.
Exhibits include the area's culture and history, and the natural history and geology of the
volcano and the eruption, including the recovery of the area's vegetation and animal life.

8-Jul-2024   /   Johnston Ridge Observatory
Johnston Ridge Observatory is unreachable due to a landslide ocurring last summer that has taken out the road on State Route 504. A gate is closed by the Hummocks Trailhead,
preventing further travel on State Route 504. It is estimated that Johnston Ridge may be open in 2027, depending on repair work progress.
Luckly we were there on 8-Jul-2024, just 8 days before the road was closed till 2027.

8-Jul-2024   /   Problems with the Bus
images/240708/IMG_5847.JPG
The Bus driver and several passengers worked
on resolving the problem.
Shortly after leaving the "Johnston Ridge Observatory
the Bus developed a drive problem and needed to pull
over. The bus driver contacted the Observatory and
left them know that he was parked beside the road.
After a about 30 minutes he thought it was fixed
and got everyone back on the Bus and started to go.

Well that only lasted about 1000 ft and now the bus Was stopped partly blocking the 2 lane road. This
time he called to get an additional Bus sent out to
Return us to the RV Park and again he called the
"Observatory" to let them know that the bus was
partly blocking the narrow 2-lane road.

This time we had to wait about 2 hours for the 2nd
Bus to arrive. Again we had to wait outside of the bus
with the temperature at about 95 degrees. The staff
at the "Observatory" came out to provide traffic
control and brought use some WATER. After a short
time another staff member appeared with some
FROZEN Fruit Juice Tubes.

Finally the 2nd Bus arrived and took us all back to
the RV Park. Instead of arriving back at around 6:00
we arrived at about 8:30. Everyone survived!

Outside the Bus was much cooler and had a small breeze.
