23-Apr-2019 at Lock A Campground We extended our stay here for a 2nd night. During the day we planed the next few Days travel & Walked to the Cheatham Dam & Lock A, 4.7 mi. The Cheating Lock and Dam was authorized by Congress in 1946 as a navigation project to enhance the development of the Cumberland River Basin. The original purpose of the project was to replace the smaller, aging locks built at the turn of the century between Nashville and Ashland City area. Providing navigation and hydro-power, Cheatham Lake is an integral part of the overall Cumberland River system. This gives Middle Tennessee access to the entire Mississippi River system and the Intercoastal Waterway. |
