Hanging above the Arkansas River, the Royal Gorge Bridge is one of the world's highest highest and most famous suspension bridges.

Build in 1929 for $350,000, the cost today would exceed $20 million; but the experience is priceless.

There are several ways to cross the 1200' gorge:
- Walk on the bridge.
- Ride in the Gondole.
- Zip line the gorge.
- Ride the Ziprider, open seat zip line.

It snowed last night
Temp: 32 deg

With no snow on the roads and the temp warming up we decided to visit two more sites.

Western Museum of Mining & Industry

Known as the "Museum That Works", WMMI brings the history of mining to life. Witness operaional steam engines and enjoy daily guided tours.
We found manuy interesting exhibits on at WMMI including:
- How mining was performed.
- How gold and silver was recovered from the mined ore.
- The Ultimate Corliss Engine. This engis was built for the 1876 exhibit in Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. This engine provided the power for 8000 machines in the exhibit via belt and shaft power distribution. -

United States Air Force Academy and the Cadet Chapel

As we arrived the area was covered with a light fog. After visiting the Visitors Center and museum the fog lifted enouth for us to visit the Cadet Chapel. The Cadet Chapel is one of the most distinctive buildings the country.

The weather today was threating to snow by 1:00 pm.
We took a chance and visited Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. The storm actually arrived around 7:00 pm.

Garden of the Gods

The Garden of the Gods is at the base of Pikes Peak, where the Great Plains Meet the Rockys. It is known for its towering red sandstone formations.

Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak with an ltitude of 14,115 ft ranks 31st in elevation among Colorado's 54 "fourteeners". The peak can be reached by car on a scenic highway. This is a 19 mile road with both steep grades and many switchbacks. After driving for about an hour you reach the top to find a small food service area. On a good day the views are said to be fantastic, but for us we entered the clouds shortly befor reaching the top.
