9-May-2019, Drive to Farmington, NM Today our plan was to drive thru Silverton, CO, Durango, CO, and end in Farmington, NM. After attempting to drive to Silverton on US-550 we decided that we should NOT take the RV over that road. Additionally it snowed last night. We took a much longer route thru Grand Junction, Moab, and then to Farmington. |

8-May-2019, Montrose, CO Today we headed up the mountain to Silverton, CO. The weather forcast was cold, low 30's, with rain. We wanted to spend some time in this old mining town and get a tour of the off road area. About 2/3 the way up the mountain we started to question completing the day as planned. The 1st indication was a road sign, seen photo below. Even though we were driving just the car I was concerned about the wet road conditions. The next bad sign was when we met a snow plow coming down the road. Next it started to snow lightly, but when it started to stick and was creating slush on the road we took the next turn around and headed bake, just 20 mi short of Silverton. As we turned the snow was starting bo come down harder and the temperture was 32 deg. The surranding mountain was bueatiful with the green trees starting to capture the snow. |

7-May-2019, Montrose, CO Black Canyon of the Gennison Nation Park In the 1850's was considered IMPENETRABLE. The Gennison River had hewn the canyon walls from a dome of extremely resistant crystalline rock. From the top of the canyon to the river below is app. 2000'. Visiting this canyon is an exciting experience. Good roads make it possible to reach both the top and the bottom of the canyon. I would not take an RV to the top but there is a camp ground for the daring. The road to the river limits the length of the vehicle. This river access road is very steep, 16% grades are posted. A careful drive is needed but the views at the river are great. |

7-May-2019, Montrose, CO Museum of the Mountain West This museum is a collection of Western buildings and artifacts from the late 1800's to 1950. Many of the buildings were moved from the local area. A two hour tour introduced us to a very interesting museum.
